our tulum guide
What you should do in Tulum.
There are an endless amount of experiences and sites to discover just outside your doorstep in Tulum, Mexico. Here are some of our favorite recommendations:
Yoga, spa treatments, diving, snorkeling, kite surfing, SUP, kayaking, biking, and shopping are within a few minutes' walk of Zorba.
You can rent gear, go with a tour company or explore on your own. We are happy to make arrangements or recommendations so you can experience the best of the area.
This area is blessed with incredible cenotes and ancient Mayan ruins. A visit to a local cenote and a ruin is not to be missed!
The Tulum Ruins are less than 15 mins away - go early for the best experience!
But if you feel like venturing a bit further.....
The Coba ruins and cenotes are a great day trip. Small artisan towns dot the road to the Coba ruins 45 mins inland from Tulum. For $5 you can rent a rustic bicycle and cruise around the national park and learn about the history of the Mayan people. You can even climb to the top of the largest ruin and enjoy the 360-degree views.
Close to the ruins are three stunning cenotes protected and managed by the local town - stopping at one for a quick refresh is a must after the ruins.
Slightly further inland is the sweet cultural town of Valladolid. The town is built around a public cenote called Ik Balam and the town has gorgeous colonial architecture. Combined with the Coba ruins, it is a perfect day trip for lunch and a walk to explore the scenic streets, visit small boutiques and tour the old convent. Definitely bring your camera.

What you should eat in Tulum.
There is a flourishing culinary scene along the beach. With so many fresh ingredients and talented chefs, local restaurants are able to offer a variety of yummy foods and cocktails. There are incredible options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner within a few minutes of the property.
Some of our favorites include:
Nu is a beautiful outdoor restaurant specializing in high end creative Mexican cuisine. NÜ is run by 7 talented Chefs lead by Cesar Castañeda, who was elected as one of Mexico’s 10 best Chefs under 30 by Gourmet Magazine and it is only a couple mins walk from our Zorba Property.
Only a very short walk from our Zorba homes you will find Be Tulum. They have several restaurants, including a seaside cocktail bar.
Nomade is a very cool hotel with a strong bohemian flair. They offer cacao ceremonies, yoga, full moon celebrations, and serve food and drinks.
For something a little more upscale and romantic, the local flavours of Ocumare and candle lit ambiance are outstanding. The venue was designed by a Michelin chef....need we say more.
This Mediterranean restaurant/hotel/ and beach club is located right next door to our Zorba Beach Homes. It is a great spot for cocktails or a meal.
Excellent wood fired pizza and straightforward Italian food. Easy going and relaxed ambiance or you can order to go.
Hartwood is only a couple mins walk to the north along the beach road. Reservations recommended. They accept reservations through their website a minimum of 30 days before.
Posada Margherita is a classic on the beach. They have been serving their fresh Italian meals with the most romantic candlelight ambiance on the beach for years. It is still amazing.
La Zebra is a hub on the beach for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They serve fresh Mexican cuisine emphasizing local ingredients. They serve fresh cocktails and often have live music. Sunday nights they host Salsa night, offering free salsa classes from 6-7 followed by a live Salsa Band from 8-10.
A new restaurant serving fresh locally inspired upscale cuisine and amazing handcrafted cocktails. The pisco sour is delicious. It is a few steps closer than Hartwood and the food is just as good (or better)! Vegan options.
The Real Coconut
The Real Coconut Excellent vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and grain free food in a gorgeous beachside setting. Excellent spot for smoothies, tea, breakfast and lunch. Part of Sanara hotel and our neighbours! If you are feeling like venturing a little further.
Incredible views and delicious Thai food. It is worth the bike/cab ride to check out the views and enjoy some yummy eats. Happy hour is 1pm - 4pm daily, 2x1 Margaritas... traditional, passionfruit, Thai basil....need we say more! Best to go during the day to see the beautiful beach.
